Our adventures has just begun

We finally left Connecticut on Friday, November 8th about 12:30 in the afternoon and headed to our first location in Maryland.  Of course, it was a Friday afternoon/evening of a Holiday weekend, so we could only hope for the best. It took us 4 hours to go from Seymour, CT to the George Washington Bridge! All I can say is that I was calm because I already expected it. Once we got to the NJ Turnpike it was still busy but pretty clear sailing.

We stopped once to pick up a sandwich and once in the Clara Barton Rest Stop which is the last in New Jersey to fuel up. Driving out of New Jersey and through Delaware to Maryland took about 20 minutes and about $80.00 in tolls! Oh well! LOL

We arrived at the beautiful Cherry Hill Campground in College Park, Maryland a little after 11pm. I called ahead about late arrivals and they have someone at the front check in gate all night long.

The night guy, Steve, got us to our spot 1204 with no trouble at all. Now, this was our first stop anywhere. We never even did a dry run hooking up the RV to the water, electricity and the sewer. It was pretty close to 32 degrees. We unhooked the car – Daniel is a pro by now! And I backed the rig into our campsite.

Our first site number we will never forget

What a beautiful and professional campground this is. Everything was very close and right where we needed it. We plugged in the power, connected the water and hooked up the sewer connection so that we could flush any waste. We had it done in about 15 minutes – we were VERY proud of ourselves!

So, now we had electricity, all we needed is heat. I had only tried the thermostat at our Open House the week before and could only get it to blow cold air. With a few pushes of the electronic thermostat we had heat. Man – are we good or what!!!

We cleaned up inside and arranged a few things that we had just put onboard so we could get on the road. And by 2Am were asleep. Needless to say that it didn’t take much because we were exhausted!!!

So, our visit was very short because we only booked one night because we wanted to be further South on Saturday. We were up around 9:30am, only to reverse everything that we had set up only 9 hours before. Checkout was 11am and we had everything done by 11:30 and we were on the road. No one bothered us about being a little late.

I would suggest this campsite to anyone who doesn’t mind paying a little more for all of the amenities. Check out Cherry Hill Park the next time that you are in the area at cherryhillpark.com – you will not regret it!

On Saturday, the 9th we headed South to visit my Cousin in Beautiful Gwynn Island, Virginia. We pulled in around 6pm and my Cousin Gail, her Husband George, their daughter Robin and two of her children, Logan and Madison were all there to greet us.

Mike, Gail and her husband George and Danny

I had not seen them in about 7 years, so it was a great reunion. They prepared a great meal for us of homemade crab cakes and coleslaw, delicious fresh shrimp and some home fries. We finished it off with a piece of fresh blueberry pound cake. We chatted until we could no longer keep our eyes open and slept like babies in their very comfortable guest room.

We were only able to pull in to their property the night before, so we had to unhook the car, reposition the vehicles, hook the car back up and then we headed south to Myrtle Beach area at around 11:30 am on Monday. It was a long drive through Virginia and then into North Carolina. There were many large farms and quite a few smaller horse farms along the way.  It is a beautiful area of the Country. The roads that we traveled on were in very good condition compared to I-95. It was a pleasure using some of these and I am hoping that our travels across the US are more on roads like that than the major highways – we will have to plan that way.

We arrived in Calabash, North Carolina around 7pm on Sunday evening. My cousin Laurie and her husband Paul were waiting for us with open arms. Dinner was on the table and we feasted on a great salad and shrimp and penne with broccoli, garlic and oil. Homemade brownies for dessert was the perfect end to a great meal. We yacked and yacked until 11pm and then once again, could not keep our eyes open. We made plans for Monday (Veterans Day) to do a little shopping.

We headed out on Tuesday to Camping World and purchased a new up to date Garmin RV GPS as the one that we got with the RV was a little older than Daniel was happy with and we need to be able to trust this 100%. We bought a new white water hose for our potable water, a round basket to keep it nice and organized, a pair of rubber gloves for handling the black water and some polarized sunglasses to keep the driver from being blinded by the late afternoon Sun. We then headed to The Dead Dog Saloon in Murrells Inlet for a little nosh out on the deck. It was a beautiful 65 degrees and eating outside was not something that we would have been able to do just 3 days before today.

We headed to the Myrtle Beach Sky Wheel for a nice view of the beachfront and the coastal sightline for miles. It took about 12 to 15 minutes to go around 4 times. We got some great pics and Daniel did a live stream on Facebook. We then headed to Walmart – looking for a gel seat cushion for to help the Driver be a little more comfortable while driving. They had exactly what I thought I wanted. We will try it out tomorrow and I will let you know!

See Y`all next time!...

  6. Hello All! Thanks for following. I typed until 1am this morning. Tonight daniel was going to publish what I wrote up to arriving here but the Region had a major power surge which blew out 2 transformers - one outside and one inside the property. So we are in total darkness! And I am not even complaining because the sky is SO beautiful. So, no power means no publishing tonight. Hopefully tomorrow. Hang in there! Thanks! Mike and Danny
